While Revolver Rani earned 1.90 Crores, Kaanchi collected 0.85 crores and Samrat & Co. 0.25 crores only. Looking at the current pace the film is performing, it seems 2 States might even emerge as the Highest 2nd weekend grosser of 2014.
This rom-com has done very well on Day 9 i.e. 2nd Saturday. The final numbers are still being compiled. Watch this space for 2 States’ 2nd Saturday collections.

2014 has had an erratic graph to flaunt at the box office. While the successes in 2013 we more regular with end of  May witnessing one of year’s most memorable hits, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, 2014 can boast of the same. Success has come but not from the expected. Though Jai Ho’s underwhelming story is a thing of the past already, the unfortunate performance began the year dull especially because the expectations were massive.
But one cannot deny that 2014 has been a year of losses and averages or superhits. Yaariyaan that was made on a budget of 10 crores and a promotional cost of another 9 crores went on to rake hefty moolah at the box office by earning double of its investment, reaching it cumulative domestic income to 40 crores. With that began the year’s array of superhits.

How could have one expected a no-hero, Kangana Ranaut film to turn out as terrific as Queen. But it did. The film’s simplicity made everyone go gaga over the movie and its lead actress who tasted her first thunderous success. The film that was made on meagre cost of barely 11 crores, earned 61 crores at the domestic box office. The film’s ROI was recorded at 454% at the time of its final income.
Ragini MMS 2 was another super surprising success of the year. Made on a reported budget of 18 crores, the film settled for 47 crores at the domestic box office by the end of its run. The film profit rate was calculated at 161% which was smashing. Being the first superhit for Sunny Leone, the actress found an entry into Bollywood more receptively than ever before.

2 States had a great buzz around it. Based on Chetan Bhagat’s loved novel of the same name, the film’s great chemistry of the lead pair helped in garnering the favourable responses. Made on a approximate cost of 35 crores, the film has so far made 98 crores at the domestic box office. Gearing up to the enter the coveted 100 crore club, the film’s good performance paved way for another superhit with a ROI of 180%.
2014 seems to have no places for ordinary hits at the box office. The films which even remotely tasted success did so with panache, super seeding the expectations of it. Probably this will be the year of the underdogs scoring over heavy names. In ways that is better as Bollywood’s audiences is developing a taste for film devoid of the stars who feature in them. Educating masses to enjoy the movie more than the stars is crucial to the understanding and appreciating good cinema and probably 2014 attempts at attaining that.
