We're Getting More L And M Trains This Fall

The MTA's already promised to boost L train service during rush hour, and now they're making your Saturday night all the better, adding a few more Trains of Luuuuurve on weekends and evenings next fall. And that's not all—the oft-forgotten M train's getting an extra train during the morning rush, too, making that 10 minute wait at Central Ave just a teensy bit less miserable. Sorry G train, you're on your own.
The change correlates with an "increased ridership demand" (DUH), according to a statement from the MTA. Starting in Fall 2014, we'll be blessed with the following:
  • Saturday L service will be increased a total of thirty-three round trips between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m;
  • Sunday L service will be increased a total of twenty-three round trips between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m;
  • Weekday evening L service will be increased a total of three round trips;
  • Weekday M service will be increased a total of one round trip (one northbound trip in the morning and one southbound trip in the late afternoon)
These welcome changes are an addition to the MTA's plan to add more L trains during morning and evening weekday rush; the agency also plans to extend M train service from Myrtle Avenue to Delancey Street-Essex Street on weekends. Of course, none of this will save you when one of these extra L trains decides to take a nap somewhere under the East River, but that's another story.
